Direct flights between the US and Galicia / Madrid
A reference guide to current nonstop routes from the United States, and the short onward connection from Madrid when a direct Santiago flight is not available.

1. Direct to Santiago de Compostela
As of May 2026, there is one nonstop route between the United States and Galicia.
Newark (EWR) → Santiago de Compostela (SCQ) — United Airlines
Three flights per week, operating seasonally. The eastbound flight takes approximately seven hours. This is currently the only scheduled nonstop service between the United States and any Galician airport.
2. Direct to Madrid
Outside the Santiago season, or from US cities the Santiago route does not serve, Madrid is the nearest major US gateway into Spain. Current nonstop routes are listed below.
| US airport | Airline(s) |

The transatlantic route network
3. Connecting via Madrid to Galicia
When travel falls outside United's Santiago schedule, or departs from a US city without that option, the remaining leg from Madrid is short relative to the transatlantic flight.
Madrid (MAD) → Santiago de Compostela (SCQ)
Flight time is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Iberia, Iberia Express, Air Europa and Vueling operate the route, with multiple daily departures between roughly 6:35am and midnight.
Including a typical connection window at Madrid–Barajas, total transfer time from arrival to landing in Santiago is generally around 2 to 2.5 hours.
Summary
- One nonstop US–Galicia route exists: Newark–Santiago on United, three times weekly and seasonal.
- Twelve US airports currently connect nonstop to Madrid, across Iberia, American, Delta, United, JetBlue and Air Europa.
- The Madrid–Santiago leg adds roughly 1 hour 15 minutes of flight time, or about 2 to 2.5 hours including a connection.
