A hotel where the river sets the pace. At the heart of Valadouro, in the Mariña Lucense region of northern Lugo, this riverside hotel pairs traditional Galician stonework with the comfort guests expect today. The building's natural stone façade and glazed galleries sit alongside warm wood joinery and wrought-iron balconies, keeping the character of the surrounding architecture intact while offering every modern amenity behind the scenes.
18 rooms, each with its own character. The hotel's eighteen rooms blend original stonework, exposed timber ceiling beams and period furniture — carved four-poster beds, antique wardrobes and classic armchairs — with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, television and stone-finished bathrooms in every room. The corridors carry the same feel through wooden flooring, exposed stone and vintage pieces such as trunks and rocking chairs, with a small display of historic scales adding a museum-like touch along the way.
Dining, gathering and a river view worth lingering over. A wood-and-granite bar-café opens onto the ground floor, and the main dining room sits beneath exposed beams and large windows looking out over the landscape. The standout space is the glazed terrace by the river — enclosed for year-round use — where the sound of running water accompanies every meal. The reception hall carries the same period character, with a turned-baluster wooden staircase, traditional columns, Persian rugs, wicker seating and a chandelier setting the tone on arrival.
A historic fountain at its heart. An original stone fountain, built with ashlar masonry and multiple spouts, is integrated within the hotel itself — a rare heritage feature that adds both character and the constant, calming sound of water to the space.
Mariña Lucense on the doorstep. Valadouro sits within one of the most scenic valleys of Mariña Lucense, a coastal-and-mountain region spanning 16 municipalities and around 100 km of Cantabrian coastline. Nearby highlights include the Pozo da Onza waterfall along the Ruta dos Pozos, the Fervenza de Escouridal — among Galicia's tallest waterfalls — and the Dolmen de Santo Tomé, a Neolithic monument tied to the region's Rapa das Bestas tradition. The Serra do Xistral's peat bogs and wild horses lie inland, while Mondoñedo, former capital of the Mariña and a heritage town with its own cathedral, is a short drive away. The celebrated As Catedrales beach in Ribadeo, the sandy beaches of Foz, and the fishing harbours of Burela and Viveiro are all within easy reach.
Location and connectivity. Asturias Airport is approximately 115 km away (1 hr 20–30 min), A Coruña Airport 115–125 km (1 hr 45–50 min), and Santiago de Compostela Airport 135–140 km (1 hr 35–45 min), the best choice for international connections. Lugo's mainline station is 85–90 km away (1 hr 15–20 min), while Ribadeo's narrow-gauge Renfe Cercanías station is 25–30 km away (around 30 min). Foz and Burela are around 15 minutes away, Ribadeo and Viveiro around 30 minutes, and As Catedrales beach approximately 15 km away.
